What are people using for an external drive shelf?

Fri Nov 15, 2019 12:00 am

I've got my RPi 4 set up as a file server with a small "internal" SSD drive hooked up to it via a SATA-to-USB cable. I'm using the Flirc case, and it all has a pretty small footprint on my table. Though I'd still like to find a little rack or a shelf unit that I could sit it on, maybe with the drive underneath.

I've see the acrylic "dog bone" stands, but it doesn't look like a 2.5" SSD or an RPi in a case could fit in those.

What are some other solutions people have come up with?

I just sat mine on a couple of clothes pegs for a while, then I decided to get fancy, and found an aluminium 'egg ring'. A few moments with some pliers to reshape it, a piece of non skid rubbery stuff under it to stop it skidding and a little over it to stop the Pi sliding and it fits, it keeps the SSD heat off the bottom of the Pi and it will do until I want to get fancy.
