PS3 Bluetooth Headset With Pi4?

Fri Oct 18, 2019 7:53 am

Is it possible to get a Playstation 3 Bluetooth headset working with a Pi4B? I've seen some complicated guides on how to do Bluetooth audio on Pi3 with Stretch, but hopefully things have moved on from then and I just need to install a few packages.

If you install Raspbian Buster with Desktop Operating System there is an Icon on the top bar to enable Bluetooth Pairing.

It is only as hard as you wish to make it, and actually doing it yourself rather than reading some random Blog or watching a YouTube video, which may or not be correct.

Retired disgracefully.....

Of course I have already tried to pair it via the icon. "Paired successfully, but this device has no services which can be used with Raspberry Pi." error message.

It's possible the headset only supports the HSP/HFP profiles. The Pi only supports the A2DP profile, as far as I have ever seen.

Having HSP support seems like a pretty basic thing for a product (Pi4 / Raspbian Buster) with Bluetooth to support. Who is responsible for the packages that would provide HSP support?

A wide range, I imagine, from the guys at BlueZ, to the kernal maintainers, to the Debian developers, to the Raspbian developers, to the BlueALSA guy or the PulseAudio guys, to the end users.

As an end user, you might want to start there.

Poking around with bluetoothctl seems to get the microphone of the headset connected but no audio output.

Code: Select all

Thanks for this. This worked exactly as expected.
