Pi 4 - can't get MiniDLNA service to open the port for listening

Fri Oct 04, 2019 2:06 am

Hello,
This is my first foray into using a Pi.
I am familiar with the L/unix operating system, having been in the IT community for years.

Here's my issue.
I have been using the forums to identify the instructions I need to install services onto my pi 4.
I got MiniDLNA installed, and it ran .. once.
I had to reboot (power outage), and since then, it won't listen on the listening port (8200)

I have the following aliases set (because I hate typing)
alias netc="netcat -v -w 2 "

alias dlnastat="sudo /etc/init.d/minidlna status"
alias dlnareload="sudo service minidlna force-reload"
alias dlnastart="sudo /etc/init.d/minidlna start; dlnareload ; dlnastat ; netc l
ocalhost 8200"
alias dlnastop="sudo /etc/init.d/minidlna stop"

I go in and start the service (dlnastart), and get the following results:

[ ok ] Starting minidlna (via systemctl): minidlna.service.
● minidlna.service - LSB: minidlna server
Loaded: loaded (/etc/init.d/minidlna; generated)
Active: active (exited) since Thu 2019-10-03 21:53:14 EDT; 123ms ago
Docs: man:systemd-sysv-generator(8)
Process: 3261 ExecStart=/etc/init.d/minidlna start (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)

Hint: Some lines were ellipsized, use -l to show in full.
netcat: connect to localhost port 8200 (tcp) failed: Connection refused
netcat: connect to localhost port 8200 (tcp) failed: Connection refused

----
run ps -eaf | grep mini | grep -v grep
and I get no results

I have an NTFS drive attached for storage - it is in my fstab file to mount on boot.
I can see the files on the drive.
I have the user setup for minidlna as minidlna

/var/log/minidlna.log is empty

I could really use some help, as I just don't see what I have wrong.

- try netcat to the actuall IP of the Pi and not localhost.
- "netstat -lp" should list all ports open for listening and which process that has opened them.
