Hi there

I am tying with the idea of using a Rasberry Pie as Kodi Media Player for Local stored and legal files.

This is what I want to do.

1 Use Rasberry Pi 3 + or 4
2. Use OSMC or Latest Kodi Version
3 Connect HDD or SDD up to the Kodi Box
4. I will load the HDD up with relevant movies
5. locate this kodi player at another location away from my home.
6. Update the kodi build and transfer new movies to the Hardrvie ota as long as there is internet.

Is this possible and how would it be done are they any videos guides.

The hard part is the remote access.
- I dont know how updates work on OSMC, or if OSMC still is built on top of Raspbian.
- So I'm suggesting that probably running Kodi on top of Raspbian Buster gives you the best options/flexibility. ( at the time of writing.. )
- Do you have complete control over the network at the remote location ?
- Are you comfortable with the commandline interface or do you prefer GUI ?

something like this
RPi1B Media Player FrontView.jpg
RPi1B Media Player FrontView.jpg (190.71 KiB) Viewed 159 times
but that one uses an older RPiB (c.2012)

but I also use this RPi4B-4G (my new RPi desktop, upgraded from RPi3B+, again upgraded from RPi3B) as Kodi Media Player

media accessed from NAS, or plugged in USB drive (thumbdrive, HDD, DVD, etc)...
remote control using old smartphone....

actually watching one now on the RPi3B (now reunited with its original monitor)

Probably best off just using the official Pi builds of LibreELEC. There is an annoying problem on the Pi 4 ATM with 10b output being rendered incorrectly in 8b, but this is allegedly being worked on (although I can't imagine it's a terribly high priority ATM, what with more pressing bugs and features waiting treatment -- see the interminable USB boot threads for a good example).
