Welcome to the forums.

The size of--and the reason for the choice--was part of the release announcement on the blog...in June. Plus, looking at the features list on the bottom of the box a Pi4B came in, I find, "2 micro HDMI ports".

Every company I would consider as a normal Pi retailer carries the RPF micro-HDMI to HDMI cable. List price is $5.

The Pi cables are good value if you need two screens.
Otherwise I use an adapter from Daiso for $2.80AUD.
They have USB-C cables and adapters too.
Every time the wife goes shopping at the supermarket I fill my pocket with loose change, go next door to Daiso and acquire another cable/adapter

Or you can get things like this nice looking Micro HDMI cable for $2 https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32866547894.html

I have no idea if they are any good or not but for the price I would take a chance. They look much better than the ugly white Raspberry Pi standard cable.

I believe you mean micro HDMI to HDMI.
While I agree that the color scheme RPF has chosen is terrible, (only my opinion) I am of the opinion the linked item is even worse.

Excellent. Promote a cable of dubious/unknown quality because you don't like the design/colour of the official known high quality one. Fantastic advice.

I do not deserve that level of sarcastic abuse for making that suggestion.

I was not exactly promoting anything, just pointing out an alternative. I clearly stated that I have no idea of the quality of that cable and that buying it would be taking a chance. In short, buyer beware.

As it happens I don't like the colour/design of the official cable. Should I be reprimanded for stating an opinion and offering what may well be a satisfactory alternative? I think not.

Well there is a thing. If I want to buy a micro HDMI cable locally it will cost 25 Euro. I can order from the nearest official Pi seller in Sweden and pay 20 Euro.

Now, that is not a lot perhaps but it soon mounts up when you need more than one.

Or I can take a chance and pay 2 Euro plus a bit postage.

So guess what I will be doing...

I paid 5,90 € for the official micro HDMI cable from my German reseller. He also offered a cheaper cable from Goobay for 3.90 €.

Oh I think you do. What with you not liking the colour of cables, and others dismissing software because it has a splash screen, the world is going crazy !

That is an excellent idea!

Then they would blend in nicely in promo pictures like those here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/ra ... 4-model-b/
whilst at the same time distinguishing themselves among the mass of cables that breed behind my computers and monitors.

Well, to be fair, it does make it easier to identify the proper cable when climbing behind a desk if it's color coded.

I haven't specifically checked on the HDMI cable, but a lot of RPF items give you a choice between white (or white/red) and black (or black/dark grey). The official PSU for the Pi4B, for instance, has that choice.

Personally, I'm not crazy about red, so I prefer the black items. My wife, on the other hand likes the items in white. In the end, it really doesn't matter. The outside color has no effect on operational characteristics.
