PI4B - Graphical User Interface Question.

Fri Jul 05, 2019 8:13 pm

Currently the GUI preforms lots like windows, before video card drives are installed.
especially web with chrome, etc.

I am not complaining its still very useable,

This Chromium HW GUI acceleration that is currently disabled with the PI4B...
once this is Fixed and enabled, Will that make over all OS GUI performance better?
or is that just going to make Chromium preform smoother with utube?

Thanks for all your efforts!

Ps: once they fix this, will the a update just turn this on automatically?

Please remember that you are still running a 35$ computer. ;) The Pi4 is not THAT big of a leap in performance.

But I'm curious, where did you read this stuff about Chromium ?

The desktop, when using FKMS, is already accelerated. It's uses the GPU via DRM and MESA.

Chromium issue is fixed and available in rpi-update, plus an edit to the chromium-browser startup file.. That JUST affects Chromium. Only use rpi-update is you are happy to run beta software. The fix will be in apt soon (ish) which will be more tested and reliable.
