I have been installed WidevineDRM but it seems to put a heavy load on my laptop.
Can you tell me the specs needed to run WidevineDRM?

I works with Amazon Video fine
Give it a try. You can always remove it.
Netflix needs and ID change iirc of that link above (I was there yesterday to use with Amazon Video) and that is streaming UHD versions.

I think that is just a comparison, assuming they have no Pi4 yet.

AFAIK, Netflix works on a Pi 3 with Kodi 18 and a suitable plugin. So if it doesn't already work on a Pi 4, it probably will in the not too distant future. Currently the Kodi version best adapted to the Pi 4 is said to be the one that comes with Libreelec.

Use the Vivaldi browser and follow their instructions for the Pi with respect to Widevine.
There is a link above already.
Then log into Prime Video.

And play.

I expect you can do something similar in Chromium too.

for chromium you would need the widevine library
there are scripts that can fetch this library
https://gist.github.com/ruario/19a28d98 ... 42e5f8bf29
/usr/bin/chromium-browser
would be the right place to put the library

as far as i have read the browser agent ist crucial for using netflix or prime
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... pkjnoahfmg
the default chrome agent string without rasp.... should work

Netflix seems to work mostly ok on Rasbian uisng Chrome on the pi 4 ,
goto Ventz blog for instructions on how to download widevine and setup netflix on Chrome

https://blog.vpetkov.net/2019/07/12/net ... -chromium/

Netflix should now work but on some monitors you may notice bad screen tearing when the camera moves, plus Netflix will only play at
1280 by 720 in chrome (it just does), you can display the resolution its playing at by pressing shift ctrl alt and D to display the netflix stats.

I found that to fix the screen tearing I had to reduce my PI screen resolution down from 1080P to (1280 by 720 by 59.94 HZ,) using Preferences, Screen Config menu,
i guess this reduces the amount of scaling that needs to occur

Maybe in the next Buster update they can incorporate the widevine and setup netflix on raspberry pi 4 with its build in chromium

So users can set up their new Pi 4's 4gig and start watching their favorite one Netflix,Prime Video , Hulu , etc

@RaspberryPi are you listeneing ? LOL

It is not "legally" possible to include WideVine, the Raspberry Pi SBC is not classed as a "Secure Platform"

That's up to Netflix, Amazon to provide the method.
It's their platform they want you to pay for.
Ask them. ;-)
You pay more to them than you doing to RaspberryPi.

For best results, you probably want to go with LibreELEC and the castagnait Netflix addon. See https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=329767
My understanding is that the browser and kodi addon versions of netflix don't support hardware acceleration. This will probably limit you to 720p60 or 1080p24.
If someone ports Android to the Pi4 with proper video support, I expect it will become the best for Netflix, much like it is for the Tinker Board.

Have you tried on your pi4?
I can't make latest LibreELEC alpha (9.1.002) works, I get this error:

Code: Select all

ERROR: GetDirectory - Error getting /usr/lib/kodi/addons/inputstream.adaptive/
but the addon lives in:

Code: Select all

/storage/.kodi/addons/inputstream.adaptive/
I still haven't find a way to make it search for the correct path

Is the add-on even compatible with ARMHF LibreElec or even passed DRM requirement ??

Unfortunately I don't have my Pi4 where I am this week. I don't remember exactly whether I tried the Netflix addon on LibreELEC on the Pi4. It definitely has worked in the past for me on the Tinker Board and on a Pi 3, both of which are armhf. I'll try to remember to follow up here in a couple days.

Ok, so, just to absolutely confirm: I have The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance playing on my Pi4 right now using LibreELEC and the Netflix plugin. It looks smooth at 1080p24 and seems to have surround audio.

Use the image from https://libreelec.tv/raspberry-pi-4/ Enable the "inpustream adaptive" addon.
Enable ssh and then use scp to copy the repo zip file from https://github.com/castagnait/repositor ... -1.0.0.zip to the Pi.
Enable unknown sources under Settings/System/Add-ons. Install the repo (via "install from zip file") and then Netflix (via "install from repository").
It takes a few minutes to setup and then basically just works.

Thanks i got netflix to work using your instructions, I got 1080p ok and no screen tearing.

Note: when you first start Netflix its says it needs to install widevine and will extract it from a 2gb chrome download, to avoid the huge download i did the following to install widevine

down load widevine file onto a PC from

https://blog.vpetkov.net/2019/07/12/net ... -chromium/

and extract it to your C:\ drive

install putty on your pc so you can connect to your pi

run PSFTP (part of putty)

open libreelec (or IP address of PI)

username root password libreelec

lcd c:\ (will make local directory C:)

use ls and cd to change to the remote directory to /storage/.kodi/cdm/

and type

put libwidevinecdm.so

i also copied it into /storage/.kodi/cdm/widevine folder not sure which folder it needs, but no harm having it in both folders.

Netflix should now work ok on the PI4, it beats waiting for a 2gb download
