any plans to upgrade zero?

Fri May 31, 2019 2:15 pm

hello i am just asking if there are any plans to upgrade the Pi z to like a pi z+ giving it more ram and a better CPU but keeping the idea of it being small and cheap (cheap being like 10-15 USD)

The RPF never announce new products like this in advance.

This has been discussed at length ever since the Pi0 was launched.

The RPF/RPT categorically do NOT discuss future products. If an upgrade is in the works, you'll find out when it is launched, and not before. The reason for the Pi0 was to see how close to free they could make (and sell) an SBC. That makes it extremely unlikely that an upgrade will happen until the price can be held to the same $5.

There are some serious constraints on upgrading the Pi0. Mainly, finding a better SoC that is compatible with other Pis, can use PoP RAM, and is cheap enough not to blow the BoM costs.

The Pi Zero form factor is reliant on the Package on Package System on Chip that only the older and slower CPU's have. It is unlikely, barring a major change in the Pi's technology, that anything faster is coming soon

TBH, (and my personal opinion, I have no idea what the company will be doing in this area)) I doubt we will release anything else at that price point ($5).

The dual band 5GHz wifi chip from 3B+ would be nice on Zero W eventually.

And it's turned in to a request thread, and we know what happens to those...
