how can i burn an iso to a usb

Being Linux & BSD since 1999, I use dd.

(See man dd)

You need to write the image to your pendrive, (not the file).

Do you want to burn a .iso file to the USB stick, or do you want to burn a .img file to the USB stick? Pis use the later, not the former.

no i want to burn the iso to the usb

As long as it is a hybrid iso it will work OK, (if not run isohybrid on your .iso file to convert it), but most are hybrid iso these days. 8-)

(A .iso will act like a cd, most likely a 'live' cd, whilst a .img will likely be an O/S image.)

I just recently had to do this, so there are iso images out there that are not hybrid still...
