G'day. Name is Les and allegedly retired. I do engineering work for an ordnance disposal company. They wanted a data logger for magnetometry work. Although new to the PI, it seemed to fit the bill and I was not disappointed! I am amazed at the facillities available (hardware & software.) As a former Unix/C programmer, I found myself instantly at home!

Hi, I'm Popeye70.

I picked this handle back in the early 2000's, because I was an avid sailor, and I am born in 1970 (my age? you do the math ;) )

I have been toying around with RPi's since the original Raspberry Pi version 1.1, I think. At the moment, I have somewhere in the neighbourhood of 10-12 RPis. I have a couple of Sense HATs, mSata HATs, several one-wire sensors, 2 TemperHums, 3-4 GPS dongles, 2 4G dongles, IR detectors, PiCams, voltage sensors, non-contact ultrasonic liquid level sensor (for tank levels) etcetera. I have the regular 7" display and a Nextion display that I toy around with.

When I play with my RPis, I usually end up with a semi finished result, and then I go tired and do something else. I have had my fair share of proof of concepts just to see what I can do, but I never seem to get around to putting them into production (except at work).

My projects (not a complete list) so far include
  • - Wifi probes at work (scanning SSIDs, reporting signal and speed/quality)
  • - Boat central (registering temp/hum, SMS gateway to answer status queries, GPS dongle to report position etc)
  • - OpenPlotter for boat navigation
  • - Magic Mirror
  • - Home Assistant
  • - Pi-Hole
  • - Surveilance camera
  • - Server room status at work (temp/hum, web interface, motion detection etc)
This list is far from complete, but it gives a picture of what I do and have done with my RPis in the last 2-3 years.

Hi All,
I have been meaning to get a Raspberry Pi for some time and have taken the plunge today. I used to build PCs in the 90s but am a bit out of touch now - hence my purchase. I'm looking forward to playing about with this new toy ( sorry, I mean device)

I'm sure that I'll be pestering you for advice soon so many thanks in advance

Cheers

Hi,
I'm Gary and I'm a software engineer with 40 years experience in a variety of industries - currently in a team that produces Internet Of Things control and energy management solutions on our own Linux controller. My chief language over the last 15 years has been Java but I've decided to invest in a RPiB3+ so I can have a play with Python (Java has been my main language over the last 15 years, plus odds and ends of web development) and also maybe tinker around with some simpler electronics projects. I may also be tempted to see what Kotlin has to offer on Raspbian. Apart from this new hobby, my others are barbershop singing and painting with acrylics. My Pi arrived yesterday but, believe it or not, I've not had chance to boot it up yet -- can't wait to get started.

A Raspberry PI fan since the beginning. I have been lurking on the forum since 2011.

Also a Z80 fan, and it is @mahjongg's RhoCoCo that finally persuaded me to put my head above the parapet.

I'm into retro-computing, but have no interest in playing computer games.

I currently own five RPi's (Original A & B, B+, 2B and Zero).

I also have three Pimoroni Propeller HATS, which they have sadly discontinued. I hope they introduce a Mk2. Suggestions, include an eeprom for the Propeller (as well as the HAT eeprom), and a micro-usb power inlet so that the HAT can be easily used detached from the RPi once configured.

My second post, maybe this should have been my first.
MSeries, the same MSeries you might have seen on comp.lang.java and comp.lamg.java.gui in the early 2000s. IT professional with over 30 years experience, used UNIX in 1984 at Uni. 20 years Java experience. Use mostly Java on the RPi.

Hello ,
my name is Mike Hurley. I am an out and out mainframer that is why Im a fan of the Pi, because its true to the core of computing.
Im using my PIs and accessories to subliminaly educate myself and my children whilst we enjoy playing around with computing and electronics, and also as a learning medium to teach the English language to French kids.
I vote for Eben to be on either DWTS or I'm A Celebrity as thats where the PI world should be, its done a great service to many.
Remember there is no such thing as the cloud, its just somebody elses computer.

Hello, I'm Yanazake. I've always been one to like having a really customizable machine in my hands, and the Raspberry Pi came to my attention recently. I'm not good with circuitry and stuff, but maybe I can come up with something if I can be patient and have some helping hands.
