Re: Wireless firmware testers wanted

I just did a dist-upgrade on my Pi3B which has 2017-11-29 Stretch, and when I rebooted it connected to my router just fine. But I really wasn't having any trouble before, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Is this the correct, expected result?

Code: Select all

~ $ dmesg | grep brcmfmac
[    6.571066] brcmfmac: F1 signature read @0x18000000=0x1541a9a6

My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups...and where is that annoying music coming from?

Just created a new SD card using the latest kernel image 2018-03-13-raspbian-stretch-lite and the wifi is now working.

Updated to kernel 4.14.26 using rpi-update and it is still working.
I suspect a issue in the update for the Pi3.

To double check the wireless version is what I hope it is, can you

dmesg | grep brcmfmac

And get the firmware version and date?
Ran dmesg | grep brcmfmac when it failed and it is in my post 3 posts back.

Now it is working dmesg | grep brcmfmac now shows

Code: Select all

pi@Pi-3-test:~ $ dmesg | grep brcmfmac
[    3.681700] brcmfmac: F1 signature read @0x18000000=0x1541a9a6

Shows a difference in the firmware version. I'm sure at some point I loaded the firmware you suggested to revert to a working version using

Code: Select all

wget http://archive.raspberrypi.org/debian/pool/main/f/firmware-nonfree/firmware-brcm80211_20161130-3+rpi2_all.deb
sudo dpkg -i firmware-brcm80211_20161130-3+rpi2_all.deb
but seems it may have changed again.
Yes, we rolled back the new firmware because of a couple of issues with 4.9, we have now backported the commit that was missing, and have now rolled forward to the new firmware. So everything should now be up to date - and appears to be so from your dmesg.

Can you please be specific about the actual packages and files versions to be expected then?
Would really be helpful to see this information stated into one single post, rather than making guesses out of logs and discussions.

Self-answering as per this:
firmware-nonfree (or firmware-brcm80211) 1:20161130-3+rpt3 in stretch (so Jessie installs won't get it)
* Add brcmfmac43455-sdio version 7.45.154 (new for Pi3+)
* Update brcmfmac43430-sdio to 7.45.98.38

I tested the firmware, wifi worked fine, however there were issues with bluetooth. I was able to make BT work only in one session somehow, the signal was very good, but it stopped working and nothing would make it work again. Went back to the old firmware and everything works fine - BUT bluetooth signal is very "weak", speaker plays only until about 12-15 inches, no farther then that. RSSI shows 0 what should be a good signal. But farther than 15 inches, stutters and stream stops/locks.

I'm running jessie on rpi zero w headless so used wget on the previous link...
https://github.com/RPi-Distro/firmware- ... 0-sdio.bin

Now looking at this thread more, I'm worried if this is actually the lastest correct one.
Dmesg shows,
Brcmfmac version Oct23 2017 03:55:53 version 7.45.98.38 (r674442 CY) FWID 01-e58d219f

Thanks in advance.
