Model: Raspberry Pi3B using built-in wireless
Router: ASUS RT-AC66R (diagonally 1 room and 2 walls away)
ISP: Frontier FiOS (100/100) with Ethernet to router from the ONT
OS: Raspbian Stretch 2017-09-07 (dist-upgraded weekly)
Browser: Chromium 60.0.3112.89 / Firefox ESR 52.5.2

Tested on Ookla speedtest.net website.

Test #1: http://www.speedtest.net/result/6952723166
  • PING 12 ms
  • DOWNLOAD 48.66 Mbps
  • UPLOAD 33.34 Mbps
Test #2: http://www.speedtest.net/result/6952746145
  • PING 12 ms
  • DOWNLOAD 44.75 Mbps
  • UPLOAD 34.50 Mbps
Test #3: http://www.speedtest.net/result/6952739538
  • PING 11 ms
  • DOWNLOAD 44.84 Mbps
  • UPLOAD 32.95 Mbps
Then I tried it with a server on the other side of the country (New York), and got these results.
83 / 19.50 / 9.62: http://www.speedtest.net/result/6952923859
85 / 12.88 / 11.34: http://www.speedtest.net/result/6952931231
83 / 17.19 / 10.58: http://www.speedtest.net/result/6952944538

Not sure why your results are so slow. What kind of router and internet service do you have, and have you done anything special in the configuration?
My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups...and where is that annoying music coming from?

Im on comcast cable with high speed internet with there router. I get 150 down 12 up on my laptop w10 machine. 296 down 12.5 up on iphone 7. I tried to use cat 5 to router and nothing. I dont know if there is a setting I missed. Its not the power supply, I have one that is 3.5A, and used one that is for iphone, direct plug in to power strip. I thought it might have been the channel, both the pi and printer are on same channel (6). Powered down the printer, no luck. Turned off bluetooth, no luck. Beginning to think this pi is junk. Ordered from Adafruit. Would think they would only send out good stuff.
Dont know where to look next.
I have a Netgear wnda 3100v3 dual band, but it is not recognized.

I configured an RPi3 as WLAN access point (raspbian based, internal WLAN, simple bridge mode). Then I started 'netcat' on RPi3.

Code: Select all

nc -l 9000 < /dev/zero
and another 'netcat' on a ThinkPad X1 Carbon 3rd (debian stretch, kernel 4.9.0-5-amd64, connected via WLAN to RPi3, about 2m distance):

Code: Select all

nc rpi3 9000 > /dev/zero
an 'iftop' running on the ThinkPad gives amazing:

Code: Select all

iftop -i wlan0
[...]
<=    48.8Mb  44.0Mb  43.9Mb
reversing the data flow direction
RPi3:

Code: Select all

nc -l 9000 > /dev/zero
Thinkpad:

Code: Select all

nc rpi3 9000 < /dev/zero
gives another awesome:

Code: Select all

=>    44.2Mb  48.2Mb  48.6Mb

I tried the netcat test between my Pi3 on my desk and my Win10 machine (used mobaxterm to get an nc command on my win10) via my AP (which is about 3ft away) and got very similar results of 38Mb

Looked at the USB connections I was using. the one from apple is 1A. The one from Motorola is .780mA. So ordered a 2.5A will get that tomorrow. Also added a fan on top of the pi case, and use a heat sink. I just hope I didnt damage something along the way.

Another question if someone knows. Is the red LED supposed to flash or stay steady? Not sure if it is part of my PS problem, or just does that. More tests to come.

By the way, im using the pi for MagicMirror and Alexa.

1A is not enough for a Pi3B.

The red LED should remain on, no flashing whatsoever. This symptom proves you have a PSU problem.
