RPI 0 W gadget mode?

Sat Aug 12, 2017 10:31 pm

I know the normal Pi 0 can run as a usb gadget, allowing one to use a single usb cable for power and data (ssh)
this required that the micro usb have a direct connection to the CPU, now i assume the 0W has a built in usb hub for wifi/bluetooth and the single usb jack which would prevent this from working correct?

No, the wifi and bluetooth aren't connected by USB, gadget mode is still available.

The OP is wrong. The wifi and Bluetooth are connected differently (SDIO, IIRC). There is no USB hub on the Pi0W, same as on the Pi0, so gadget mode will work.

The USB connection is not direct to the CPU on any Pi. On the 0 and A models it does go directly to the SOC which contains the CPU, but the internal connection is indirect.

You assume wrong. All B-series models of Pis have a USB hub. Pi0, Pi0W, all A-series and all CM-series Pis do not. On the Pi3B and Pi0W (and the Pi3A whenever it gets launched) the WiFi and BT are *not* on the USB bus.
