Its just preference IMO. Both work fine, but on my cheap netbook with only 28GB of space, I'll take the few hundred kilobyte app over an app several thousand times its size
I have no idea about the bloatedness of any particular Windows programs. I'm just aware that Win32DiskImagerWhyDoesTheNameNeedToBeSoLong? might have problems with the current Raspbian image file.
I stick to Linux, preferably command line and use unzip and dd, neither of which are particularly large.
