LCD screen for Pi3

Wed Oct 26, 2016 7:24 pm

Hi,

Just curious to know...can we connect any LCD panel to Raspberry Pi3? My thinkpad W530 just died and was wondering if i can use the LCD panel with Pi3.

Has anyone done this? Appreciate the responses.

Thanks,
Riyaz

You would need to get an interface card to convert from the screen interface to HDMI (if one exists).
Get the screen model number from the back of the screen and search ebay.
Or search [LVDS to HDMI adapter] and ask the sellers if they have an adapter which works with your screen.
The board cost as much as a RPi and also needs an additional power supply.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated Raspbian Buster w/ Desktop OS.

as alreday mentioned:
1.) you need to figure out which display is inside
2.) search for a suitable i.e. HDMI to LVDS interface (don't know if this display is LVDS, in case your notebook is a later model there is also the chance that display is using eDP interface)

I think This is the hdmi driver
for the B156Hw01 lcd

This link explains why i think the lcd you have is the b156hw01

Your lcd may not be b156hw01 but an equivalant lcd, and the driver will still work

But you need to do your own research before buying.

The driver board has a little board for the brightness and other controls, it does not need to be attached , you can just attach once and set the brightness and then detach if you want
