At Maker Faire Bay Area, in the Raspberry Pi section, there were Pis with a software for controlling the Sense HAT. The person there said the software was available online. I bought a Sense HAT and hooked it up to my Raspberry Pi 2, but I've been searching and I cannot find the software.

i'm not sure what they had running at MFBA but have you checked https://github.com/bennuttall/sense-hat-examples and https://github.com/RPi-Distro/python-sense-hat

Hi! Thanks for visiting us at Maker Faire.

The code we used for this event is available here:
https://github.com/mrichardson23/RPi_8x8GridDraw

To install the software at events quickly, I made an installer script. To run it, execute the following from the terminal:

Code: Select all

curl -L bit.ly/1PQeM7a | sh
It's forked from the more advanced RPi_8x8GridDraw by topshed https://github.com/topshed/RPi_8x8GridDraw

I ran the installer, and now there are two new items on my desktop: Sense HAT Grid Editor and Sense HAT Python, but neither of them will open.

I switched to the pi account (previously was on my personal account

Code: Select all

advaith
) and ran the installer again. This time the Grid Editor logo is showing (it didn't show in my account), but it still won't open. I ran

Code: Select all

python /home/pi/RPi_8x8GridDraw/sense_grid.py
in the Terminal and got the response

Code: Select all

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/home/pi/RPi_8x8GridDraw/sense_grid.py", line 21, in <module>
    ap=AstroPi()
File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/sense_hat/sense_hat.py", line 36, in __init__
    raise OSError('Cannot detect %s device' % self.SENSE_HAT_FB_NAME)
OSError: Cannot detect RPi-Sense FB device
The Sense HAT is connected to my Raspberry Pi, it is connected to the GPIO and screwed on and it is showing the default rainbow.
