I'm interested in the restrictions (my guess is yes, still restricted to 1 / customer for a couple more weeks).

I want 10 and I am willing to wait until I can buy them all at once.

I suppose it would me nice to order as many zero's as youd like. But ive been waiting for ages to find out what this feature is. Ive lost count of how many Mondays its been... hope its something good and dumb like a blue led

Makes note: Next time, make the upgrade a blue LED and blame @blaablaaguy.

Whoops, meant "good, and not dumb"
If you do that, ill never be able to post on here again... blue leds are the no 1 subject of hate oround here. Anyway that will never happen. Think of the price increase

Just noticed that a certain US reseller has pulled the zero from their product list....must be because a newer version is on the way :).

White LEDs are worse.

What?

Blue LEDs are wonderful things.

Grief it took Shuji Nakamura 20 years to get them working properly, through all that time of boring red and dim green and yellow.

I seem to have spent half my life waiting for a nice blue LED since seeing my first red LED in 1971 or so.

Blue LEDs also made efficient white LED lighting possible.

Yeah, I know, marketing guys went over the top by sticking over bright blue LEDs on every consumer gadget when they could.

Heisenberg's cat may or may not be in the box. My cats would be on top of the highest box, complaining that they couldn't get any higher.

Blue LEDs (and especially their effect on white LEDs) are just short of miraculous, but way too many companies don't understand the responsible use of blue LEDs - they're insanely bright when driven full-tilt, and too many companies just spec them as simply another color choice with no thought to how much light they put out. it's irresponsible in situations where the information they provide is wanted but the room illumination isn't. Smashing them or covering them with electrical tape is messy, and kills the information along with the illumination. And some designers need to be hit with a stick until they learn this.

I'd be all for blue LEDs on Pi's, if they're driven reasonably.

The strange references to time reinforces my hope that it's an RTC

Someone told me the board looks identical to previous zero.

So I am guessing they used the new A32 core in the soc instead of the ARM1176JZF-S

Its just a rumor and my guess, probably wrong though, I prefer to dream that its a csi interface or at least solder pads for a diy ffc solder attempt :)

Sigh...a new SoC has already be ruled out. (And for the benefit of the post above yours...an RTC would increase cost, so that's obviously not going to happen.)

Clearly they've gone with black PCBs, creating the new Goth Edition Pi Zero.

They cost pennies - probably less than the csi connector. An rtc ticks all the boxes (IMHO): EU's statement (ie frequently asked for, doesn't change form factor or placement of connectors, isn't BT or wifi), it will require a firmware change to support (which implies new hardware) - and we got that today, the cryptic time references in the vid., and it could be placed where U13 should have been. The only fly in the ointment is where the battery could go ( but it could be external with pads for the connections).

Are CSI connectors all that expensive, do you think?

I know you guys are getting a kick out of the squirming geeks trying to figure this out. Can't pretend I am not one of them. Just hope this is good.... But, you are enjoying this waaaay too much. I just wish I could sit back and watch with some level of detachment.... but i need another pi zero! Dang it!

A blue led would be nice.... just don't over drive it.

Not price wise, but realestate wise. Look at the current pi zero, and think about how hard it would be to reroute traces to make a place to put one.... that's a complete pcb redesign, if it is possible at all.
