Raspian -- desktop shortcuts?

Sat Apr 09, 2016 8:05 pm

I can't find any information about creating a shortcut other than crazy complex instructions to make your own. Or time consuming anyway.

Is there something I can install that will make it a cinch? Like a simple right click on desktop or something?

I need to make a desktop shortcut to a folder. -- thank you

To make a folder shortcut:
Find the folder you want in Filemanager.
Mouse left click hold and drag to the desktop.
OR
You can right click on the folder and do copy & paste

For programs already in the menu:
Find the program in menu.
Right click then select add to desktop.

If not already in the menu then there is a new menu editor haven't tried it myself.
Otherwise it's the complicated procedure.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated Raspbian Buster w/ Desktop OS.

Go to the startMeUpMenu and find an example program and right click on it, add to desktop, then go to the desktop and right click on the icon, choose Properties:General and change the name to whatever, then Properties:Desktop Entry and change the program it is pointing to, you can use browse. If you need to set the working directory or anything like that, do that too. Other than needing to fake it out with the menu to desktop part, I don't know how it could be easier.

If you open PCManFM, find the file/folder you need to create a shortcut for, highlight it.
From the PCManFM menu select 'edit', then click 'create link' then browse to where you want to put the link (eg Desktop).
That should be all you need.
