Old updated SD card RPi 3 no ethernet

Tue Mar 08, 2016 6:17 pm

Do I need to do something special to get my old SD card to boot the RPi 3?

I have done:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

But the lights on the ethernet port never turn on. They did turn on before I did the sudo apt-get updates though?!

I have no monitor connected to the pi because I use them as servers.

Ok, you need to install a fresh Jessie it seems.

Maybe it's because I used the same SD card for my Zero?!

Anywho, nobody cares about fringe cases right.

In the original post you never stated Raspbian Wheezy or Jessie :?

Though I have used both on a ZERO and fully upgraded so I could boot a RPi 3B ;)

Also this forum is all voluntary contribution based

Old updated SD card with Jessie? That does not compute, Jessie was released a few weeks ago.

There should be clear instructions that you need jessie to run RPi3.

There are official people on this forum, this is a nobrainer.

Jessie was released September 2015 and has had several updates, the last in February 2016 to include support for the new CPU. The last Wheezy release was June 2015, though as EOL has had security fixes and updated kernel/firmware only.

As an exercise on a 2B fully updated both a Wheezy and Jessie install and both booted up the RPi 3B and still booted on 2B and ZERO...
