You have to convert digital to analog audio so there's no way you can find these converters for cheap.

The problem isn't that you have to convert digital to analog audio. Thats pretty cheap.
The problem is that you need to interface with HDMI, which isn't cheap at all.

If your goal is to get digital audio, your best bet is probably to use I2S... Assuming this ends up supported in the RPI.

Isn't there a audio connection on the RPI?
HDMI to audio is expensive. A USB audio card is much cheaper, $1.5 for 2.1, $8 for 5.1.
I am sure that I read that the RPI has an audio socket though.

Yes, there is an 3,5 mm audio jack.
But I think that Jasont41 wants to get digital audio from the HDMI.
