i tried the chrome://flags trick and disabled the media source api,
and at last youtube browsing works at 360p inside the browser with no pauses or excessive dropped frames.

Plus i tried the online theramin page, not expecting it to work, but it works ok as well

Will chromium browser, ever be installed by default into the rasbian images,
i know this is a touchy subject, but they shoukd think about it.
i mean the default browser they give, uses ' duck duck go' by default
It is a touchy subject and I have never asked. I think they want to improve Epiphany a little and I may push to include it when the entire image is ARMv7 and there is no support for the Pi1 and Pi0.

I'm not sure if anything may happen at all. No software for which the collabora people are responsible (including epiphany, webkit3 engine, parts of gstreamer1.0) has been fixed for many months. I reported a serious bug in gstreamer1.0 in October last year and nothing has happened so far. And many of the bugs and memory leaks in webkit3 and modules used by it are known for a long time now.
In fact, only one bug (in gst-omx) has been fixed but only after I had sent them the fix myself.
Minimal Kiosk Browser (kweb)
Slim, fast webkit browser with support for audio+video+playlists+youtube+pdf+download
Optional fullscreen kiosk mode and command interface for embedded applications
Includes omxplayerGUI, an X front end for omxplayer

Yeah, I've heard that. I wonder what the Foundations stance is on this and if no work is going on then they should be looking for an alternative. But they've started that backwards compatibility is important so I'm not sure if they would even consider Chromium at this time.

Yeah, if you want a relatively fast and familiar browser, try Firefox: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=150438

That's a little out of place in a Chromium thread. Please keep it relevant.

A suggestion to anyone bedeviled by the problem referred to by cjan on May 24

Ok, good. I've just done some regular browsing and it's seems to work fine so I'm going to release it today.

btw, youtube can not forward play.

( For reference I have been using Chromium version 50 without problems since it was uploaded). Suddenly today, like cjan, I found myself unable to forward the Youtube slider. Rather than revert to version 49 the easy solution was to clear the Chromium cache. Like so many mysterious computer problems , they are inexplicably resolved by clearing cache or rebooting or in the analogous case of other frustrating inanimate objects that go awry by shaking or kicking.

Well, have you tried to run your build of chromium for more than 24 hours without problems?

I would say that it's more than relevant to be able to scroll after any amount of time. It's basically as useless as a hung process after some time.

I will leave it on and top it after this night but you can too, any page will do it!

1. My build is clean from Ubuntu. If you have any gripes , take it up with them.

2. Recommending a totally different browser in a Chromium thread is out if place.

I'll look into it though.

I think this one is my bad... the screen sleep thing energy saving blabla seems to be screwing with the whole rpi3... I turned it off and it seems fine so far 2 hours in... will edit this after another night... Edit: yup.

With reference to cjan's post of May 24 regarding an inability to move the slider on youtube within the browser.. the other day I posted that I too had suddenly (it seems ) developed this problem with many but not all youtube videos and I had resolved it by clearing the chromium cache. While this is true it proved a surefire but temporary solution. After playing one video with the slider working navigating to a second video on the youtube side panel once again the slider would become inoperable although the preview thumbnail feature still functioned. If i reload the video the slider becomes functional again. Thinking it might be a corrupted chromium profile I opened a new profile. Again a temporary fix. I the removed chromium completely and deleted the whole chromium configuration folder and then reinstalled- again a temporary solution. As stated I am using version 50 . I will try going to one of my backup sd cards although I doubt this will prove any different. While for me it is only a minor annoyance because I usually play youtube videos either in omxplayergui or omxplayer or smplayer with mpv, it is nonetheless an annoyance.

It looks like your system is read only. You need to at least make the home directory a RAM disk.

./chrome --no-sandbox
or
./chrome --disable-setuid-sandbox
or
install and setup chromium sandbox

It should be done by tomorrow.

Chromium v51 BETA has been released. The stable will be released in the next few days. Anyone who wants to help test:
Add dev to the end of deb http://dl.bintray.com/kusti8/chromium-rpi jessie main in /etc/apt/sources.list

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

kusti8,

For some reason the last apt-get update/apt-get dist-upgrade removed chromium 50.
Could you clarify what you mean by add dev to the /etc/apt/sources.list so I can dl the v51 beta?

At the end of the line where it says main, add a space and then dev
Edit: But for v50, can't you just sudo apt-get install chromium-browser?

Probably placebo effect, seems snappy :P (posting from v51)
Hoping the lock up issues I was having have been banished.
Thanks
