I just checked all dependencies. libgcrypt11 is the only missing package. It is available as Wheezy version and can be manually installed besides libgcrypt20 (the corresponding Jessie version).
libgcrypt11 does not depend on any other package which is not available on Jessie.
I've modified my post about version 49 ( viewtopic.php?f=63&t=121195&p=940544#p940544 ) accordingly.

What's the plan (if any!) for long term security updates? 14.04 gets EOL'd in a few months (August) and the version for 16.04 appears to have unmet dependencies (I haven't tried "following" them to see if they can eventually be met - past experience suggests this could be a bit of a rabbit hole). Is building from source the answer?

I'm having an issue installing per the instructions in the first post of this thread. I'm installing on a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B with a fresh install of Raspbian Jessie from https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/.

When I run the commands from the first post in this thread, I end up with an error on the last command. Here's what happens in the console:

I've seen that before but I'm not sure what's causing it. I'm moving to a new hosting platform soon. In the meantime try:
rm chromium*.deb
And repeat the instructions.

Ubuntu 14.04 is a long time support version = 60 months. It will receive security fixes and upgrades (a few programs only, but including the browsers) until (at least) April, 2019.
But checking for updates is up to the user.

No. It's not possible Kusti has snatched these debs from Ubuntu. You can't add Ubuntu package sources to a Raspbian system without some serious breakage of your whole apt-get system.

Soon to change. ;)
Working on my own repo without conflicts for easy apt-get updates. Release probably today or tomorrow.

Send me a PM if you want a beta tester. I've got a 2B and 3B that both have your Chromium 48 installed.

Sure. I just need to implement one last feature pertaining to RPi-youtube (adding the kweb debinstall script to its package postinst), but the Chromium side is all finished.

The Chromium side of things worked for me. I'll test your YouTube stuff when it's ready.

Almost done with the youtube, just need to make sure it works and then you can run it.

It's live!!! Updates can now be achieved simply by a:
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
And the latest version will be updated, once I get around to it, I still have to manually put it into the repo. Looking into creating a bot. (v49 is still compiling). This should work much nicer! :D

I had the Chromium 48 working in my Raspberry Pi using the latest instructions (I notice that it keeps being updated :))
Right now I'm having trouble with using the microphone in Chromium

I'm trying to implement an app that uses this Speech recognition API
https://www.talater.com/annyang/
But, my Chromium in my Pi seems like it is not accepting any voice (Although I have given Chromium to access my microphone).
I tried using this tool https://www.onlinemictest.com/ and it indicates that mic is working.
Besides "annyang", I also tried https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/demos/speech.html and it is not working as well.
I'm pretty sure my mic is working, I'm able to test it with "aplay and arecord" in my terminal.
Does anyone know anything about using the mic permission in Chromium? Thanks

I'm not sure. I've never used that. I'll try it out if I have time with my own mic.

Hello, i wanted to install chromium to print to a printer i have connected to the pi with my android devices. Am I correct to assume this is the only way to do it and I guess hardware acceleration wouldn't make a diff to me since i don't plan on watching videos on it.

I just wish there was some way to verify the file.

Hi, I just tested my Chromium again and it works after reconfigure my alsa-config and restarted it. I'll try to reproduce this and see if I can come up if a definite steps on how to set this up on a fresh Raspberry Pi.
Thanks

You have to be more specific. Cloud print? This would be the only way for cloud print.

Hmm, I can't seem to reproduce the wanted result again. Instead, my Chromium does not take any speech input again. I'm wondering if this happens randomly :?:
Someone please let me know if you know how to fix this.

Hmm there seems you posted a new way to install chromium, do I just uninstall and reinstall with this new way. It seems updates are going to be easier. 8-)

Here are a couple of questions to clarify my doubts:
Why would Google Chrome has no limit on using the Speech API, whereas Chromium has?

Just install this method and everything should work in the future. No uninstall needed.

A quick google suggests that both are the same, but you have a limit of 50 requests per day. I would look at your Raspbian audio settings closer.
