flicker on monitor, due to power spikes

Sun Mar 15, 2015 11:06 am

getting a flicker on my lg lcd monitor if high power items switch on in house, i.e. iron or heater etc.
pi2 is using a us 2amp kindle power adapter, sitting in a us to uk shaver adapter.
lg monitor was fine on my old pc, so i think pi2 is have spikes in power supply.
anyone else noticed flickers on screen, my jumps to left about a cm and then flicks back.
will try an ipad usb power supply soon, this should be well regulated, ive seen these connected to osciloscopes and voltage is very flat, fake usb adapters just give approx 5 v and are very noisy/ spikey

Ive just changed the pi2 power supply to a brand new LG G2(2amp) uk usb power supply.
Turned on Iron and got a little flicker on the screen, but better than last time.
Not really a problem , just an observation more than anything

try increasing hdmi drive level using a config.txt entry, see http://www.raspberrypi.org/documentatio ... fig-txt.md

try CONFIG_HDMI_BOOST=4

I tried this and still get the same flicker every time i switch on clothes iron.
But its not a problem, it may be due to the fact my hdmi cable has to go into an hdmi to dvi convertor, plus i have pi at back of monitor right next to the monitor power cable all bunched together.
Will try seperating everything, which may fix it.
but it only happens when high current appliances are switching on off so not a problem.

I don't know if this will help but this stuff happens all the time in music and the solution is don't use the raspberry on the same circuit breaker as the high voltage appliances (obvious) or spend money for something called a power conditioner.
