Getting sounds from HTML using Chromium

Thu Feb 26, 2015 11:40 pm

I have been browsing all day for a solutions but found nothing.

I am using Chromium because it looks like it's the only one that can be automatically started in full screen mode. (kiosk)
I found and tried to setup the kweb thingy but I kind of got lost in there with nothing much working.

Is it really impossible to have a sound coming out of Chromium from an html page?
"impossible" seams hard to believe in 2015 with everything an RPi can do.

You must serve audio file from a web server to set the right mime to allow playing with HTML5 <audio> tag.

That is not my issue, going to the same web page from my computer the wav file plays fine.

I have also ruled out audio jack vs HDMI source as the Pi is connected to a TV from its HDMI plug and I also have a set of speakers connected the the PI's audio plug.

command line: aplay /usr/share/scratch/Media/Sounds/Vocals/Singer2.wav comes out of the TV speakers.

While I was able to get Flash working in the old version of chromium based on gkreidl's post, I have not been able to get HTML5 audio and video elements working in that version of chromium -- "Version 22.0.1229.94 Built on Debian 7.0, running on Debian 7.8 (161065)". Maybe somebody else has had success.

The only way I've personally had HTML5 audio and video working in chromium is when using the more recent version of chromium available for Arch Linux. IIRC I believe it worked on Ubuntu also. It was also mentioned here that the version of chromium available for Jessie is more recent, but I'm not sure that html5 audio elements actually work and whether or not Jessie is a viable option at this point.

FYI -
Chromium - Version 40.0.2214.111 Ubuntu 14.04 (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ARM/RaspberryPi) on Pi2B - all HTML5 audio and nearly all HTML5 video features work for me.

Has anybody tried chromium on Jessie?

The Pi is a little bit iffy with things like universal sound support.
I'm happy to help.
