More sniping/misunderstanding....

The best one is the poster who thought "CE" testing had something to do with WinCE!

I would think Xp embedded and the new Windows Mobile is the prefered platform from MS. CE is or in the process of being depreciated. No sense installing it for new devices as it is being retired.

Cried laughing at that!

I gave up on slashdot ages ago...

I much prefer the register, at least el reg doesn't pretend to be something its not, and at least its commentards know the difference between winCE and CE testing, but I suspect the commenter on \. was being a troll....

Have to admit, I made a decision yesterday not to read the Slashdot comments. This week's been quite stressful enough already!

You don't have to take anything on /. seriously, but its like a car crash or the Jeremy Kyle show (both functionally similar IMHO), you've just got to look now and then.....

This sort of thing is more common than you'd think. I once came across a fellow who insisted that "CE" stands for "Canada & Europe" and is a certification that applies equally to both places…

Tangentially, as someone whose wife is suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome, I"ve always felt Windows ME to be one of their best named products

And again.....

You know, I shouldn't visit /. , it doesn't do my blood pressure any good.

Thinking about it, I suppose that most of the more egregrious posters there are also geocentrist, intelligent design fanbois too...

Just reading those comments - I'm just a food blogger, who needs cutting some slack, because I'm so technically illiterate that I am scared by anechoic chambers.

My blood pressure was doing quite nicely this morning, too.

That will teach you to shag the boss, after all, that's the only reason they keep you around, apparently.

So I understand. (Although I will readily admit that it *is* a bit weird when we go to meetings together, and Eben has to say: "And this is my wife, Liz. Who handles our community and PR", or occasionally, "And this is Liz, who handles our community and PR, and is also my wife.")

Whilst I'm called the Technical Director for the electronics business, I'm not actually a director, I have enough fun being MD of my own outfit (software). So we have hours of fun when engineers refer to 'the girl that I just spoke to' - with my response usually being "That would be the MD" - just occasionally they'll then make disparaging comments about female MD's that aren't as technical as the staff. They usually stop digging when I point out I'm her husband. But not always ...

Early 70s, went to a HiFi show, asked to talk to someone about a turntable I had. The woman said "The company director Mr ---- is around somewhere ... It's a bit wierd calling my son Mr!"

While I am sure that there 'competent' people on Slash dot (you see I have some hope left for Humanity) there does appear to be a lot of 'Pink'* noise with extra fluff on there.

Note I've just looked for the very first time, that is why I put the caveat in.

(For those that are Not familiar with the term 'Pink' noise, it means a 'signal' that is random, have roughly the same level of power across it spectrum yet has a definite 'band' of frequencies. White Noise is something similar across an EXTREMELY large band of frequencies. I now await to be corrected ).

It's your own fault Liz - if only you'd stayed at home, cooking Fanny Craddock's duck a l'orange and Black Forest gateau for your hard working hubby then they wouldn't have had to put you in your place. You'll get no sympathy here.
