Re: If you live in the USA and were upset about SOPA and PIPA please read here.

I generally don't get involved in politics and don't even like to discuss them.  It seems that SOPA and PIPA were finally tabled for good this time.  They may be re-written again who knows.  Everyone who lives in countries with extradition laws such as the UK that allow extradition to the USA should be concerned with these laws.  As well as US citizens because it basically gives the RIAA and MPAA the ability to shut down websites without due process.  Anyway enough tooting my horn, or standing on the soap box.

I didn't come here to talk about SOPA or PIPA.  What I am here for is to urge people living in the USA to sign a petition to have Chriss Dodd and the MPAA investigated for bribery.  This will encourage them to think a little harder about pushing people around.  Here is the link:  https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions/% ... hank-you=p

If you don't care about these topics or don't agree with me then just don't petition, don't turn this into a big flaming discussion.  It is in "off topic" for a reason, because it has nothing to do with the Raspberry Pi.

Other mods:  if you feel this topic is in-appropriate let me know and I will delete it no questions asked.  Users: PM a mod (not me because I am bias) if you feel that this topic doesn't belong here and if they agree with you I will delete no questions asked.  Thanks.

I have to recuse myself from being PM'ed as I am biased too and agree with the petition wholeheartedly but I agree with what jessie has said about this threads removal if deemed neccessary

just so people know, pipa/sopa have already been replaced. and the replacement is already further along than sopa when it died.

the Protect Children from Internet Pornographers Act. don't let the name fool you; inside is a law that would require isp's to keep all records of everything you do on the internet.

As always there is a VERY thin line between Lobbying and "Bribery"

Some would call it the same....

I all ways find it laughable that people that seem to be so nieve (excuse spelling) about technology seem to be making the laws for this. anyone who has a bit of a brain negate this.

Part List:

1 x mobile internet device

1 x unlocked 3g dongle

1 x 1gb preloaded sim (use and replace)

= new access number everytime.

IMEI number blocked replace dongle

It just goes to show that brains were in short supply when these laws are draw up.

disclaimer: This does not mean go out and do this, it is just an example.

There is perhaps something to be said for Direct Democracy, as opposed to the Representative Democracy that is currently used everywhere.  In a Direct Democracy, a referendum is required before any law can be passed, with the Government's role being reduced to filtering, debating and drafting the proposed law.

With that said, as soon as the elected representatives stop listening to their constituents in favour of special interests, it is no longer a functioning Representative Democracy.

Accordingly, I am fully in favour of measures which reduce the influence that special interests can buy with money - either in my country or elsewhere.
The key to knowledge is not to rely on people to teach you it.
