I honestly do not understand why in terms of forum etiquette,
this is a bad thing. In my personal experience, I just resurrected a topic
on gpio pull up that contained all the info pertinent to my situation.

If I would have opened a new topic, I would have had to link to the old one.
And a goggle search would have just give a more spreaded result.

The problem arises when you resurect a topic that looks the same and its totally wrong.

A fresh post may well result in susinct answer or a link to something that is appropreate.

The problem with resurrection is that you may be convinced that it's the same problem, but your correspondents may not. The other problem is you won't get a straight answer, you'll get an answer that is a good reply for the original question in the thread.

It's much better to start a new thread, refer to the original (With a "Does my new problem match this old thread I found?"). Because then everyone can focus on answering your question and not answering a question that's done and dusted or dead and buried.

When I worked for IBM we insisted on having the clients open a new ticket rather than adding a new concern to an existing one. That strict rule of one problem per ticket (or in the forum's case one problem per thread) made the software support job much easier. The fundamental difference with working for IBM was that lots of our tickets ended up being referred to the software development labs and we didn't want to give them the "get out of jail free" option of "Hey, we've already fixed this one."
Note: Having anything humorous in your signature is completely banned on this forum. Wear a tin-foil hat and you'll get a ban.

We had the same policy at Telewest for all the same reasons there I was resposible for raising the tickets for those that did not have access to the ticket system. ;)

We used the ticket system to analyse the job accounting for departments.

YouTube video computer tutorials that would clearly be more useful and informative in text, suck. C'mon people, use your (written) words!

Agreed I really hate the use of youtube for tutorials (in MOST cases) - usually takes far too long to get to the point. I think many people just do it in the hope of making advertising revenue.

So can you guys have a look at my one and maybe be register and make a thread?
Thank you

Decided to swap from chrome and just updated firefox and found they've totally removed the addons bar. :(
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/wh ... add-on-bar

..which breaks many of my addons (and just about all of my self written ones: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefo ... keredrobe/ )

"addon bar restorer" and "classic restorer" seem no help :( :( :(

Not really a "You Suck" more of a "If only....."

When ever I see a "I can't see my I2C device" or "GPIO pins don't work right" thread I always want to reply "This would be much easier tom diagnose IF ONLY you had an oscilloscope and knew how to use it!"
I've been lucky enough to have access to a 'scope since I was a teenager. Either hand-me-downs or cast offs from work, or latterly my own digital 'scope. The downside is that when faced with an interfacing problem I'm lost with out one now, but boy have they saved me time over the years !

So have I. I built it from a kit :)
It's not much good for anything other than simple audio work though. I haven't even checked if it still works, all these centuries later, and if it is broken can I get the right valves to make it work again?

I think the only times I've needed to do signal analysis (other than RS-232), I've either debugged in software, built a simple monitor device or borrowed a decent scope (on one occasion). That will probably change as build more complex projects for my Raspis.

A good digital scope would be a nice thing to have though *wistful sigh*

A long time ago I built a highly dangerous X-Y graphics display using one of these http://www.r-type.org/exhib/aaa1013.htm a pair of 8 bit DACs and a pair of long tail pairs built from high voltage transistors as deflection amplifiers.
ISTR the PSU for the -600V cathode supply was contained in a cardboard box ! :!:
