CRB / DPS check for running a Raspberry Pi Jamboree

One of the people running the The Cotswold Jam had a CRB / DPS associated with his employer for the location we used.

But we are now searching for a new location, and the previous CRB / DPS check will no longer be valid as a result. I am looking for advice about CRB / DPS check requirements at other locations (perhaps schools). In particular, if kids are accompanied by parents / carers, are CRB / DPS checks required by the hosts of the event? What age are kids allowed to attend by themselves unaccompanied by parents / carers without CRB / DPS approval of the hosts of the events?

Thanks for any experience you share.

P.S. I realize this is a legal matter and therefore needs legal advice, but this is a volunteer run Jam and there has zero funds to pay for a laywer. CRB / DPS checks also cost money and are very much aimed at employers checking their new employees and hence how this applies to volunteer run events is not at all clear on reading the guidelines.

Any regular volunteers or workers who have unsupervised access to children should have DBS check. Certainly all leaders would need to have an uptodate check.

If you end up running the Jam at a school, they will almost certainly expect all supervising adults to be checked out.

I believe the cut off age is 16.

Soem useful reading here

Thanks, that's really useful. So if all kids under 16 are accompanied by a parent / guardian / associated adult then the main problem appears to be finding a location which itself does not insist on DPS / CRB checking if the above conditions are already in place.
