Mounting SD card reader (ubuntu mate)

Fri Dec 14, 2018 8:17 pm

Hello,

I had unbuntu mate running on my raspbery pi 3. I ran into an issue with trying to get it to auto login. As a result I can’t log in anymore.

I created a new SDK card that is running. I would like to get a file off of the old SD card running the ubuntu mate I can no longer log into.

I got a SD card read and connected it to my raspberry pi via USB. I want to mount it and get my file off.

I have run fdisk -l

I do not see it in the results.

Any ideas as to what I might try?

Thanks

Run

Code: Select all

lsblk
to see all connected block devices (drives)
Your card will probably show up as /dev/sda, so you may need to mount /dev/sda2

Thank you for the reply.

Unfortunately I don't see that:

Code: Select all

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ lsblk
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
mmcblk0 179:0 0 29.8G 0 disk
|-mmcblk0p1 179:1 0 1.4G 0 part
|-mmcblk0p2 179:2 0 1K 0 part
|-mmcblk0p5 179:5 0 32M 0 part /media/pi/SETTINGS
|-mmcblk0p6 179:6 0 69M 0 part /boot
`-mmcblk0p7 179:7 0 28.4G 0 part /

Is your SD card reader recognised?
Check with

Code: Select all

lsusb
And / or boot with the reader disconnected. After booting plug it in (with the SD card in it) and then check the log with

Code: Select all

dmesg
If it works then you should see the messages that the USB device is recognised, etc

I was able to mount my SD card with no problem BUT after I re-boot, and then click on my SD card which in this case is labeled (VIDEO), it pops up as (VIDEO1) but writes my data to (VIDEO) ?...any thoughts?
