Risc OS + Samba

Sat May 04, 2013 12:49 am

Hey,

I was trying to install Samba for Risc OS (http://sourceforge.net/projects/riscossmbserver/)

But When i Double click the archive I get the error, that the software is not 32 bit compatible or something.

Does anyone have a detailed description on how to install Samba on Risc OS ?

its a version for a much older (10 year older) revision of the ARM processor, without re-compiling for the current ARM processor it will never work, unless you can run an emulator on RiscOS to emulate the older processor.

Ah that must be the problem : x..

Is there another way to get samba running though ?

Recompiling sounds like alot of work.. Guess it wont be just "load sources and click compile".. So maybe I'll switch to debian. hmmn

Depends on the exact error that was given (I thought 0.08 was supposed to be 32bitted...)

There were two alternative releases of version 0.08 - one from sourceforge (the one you found) and another from Thomas Milnius (http://www.gag.de/software/smbserver/). I downloaded this and put it on the Pi and it started without complaining. However I am not in a position to test it (have no other computer near for testing), so it might be another alternative.

Return to “RISCOS”
