Me too! Possibly related to the recent libsystemd update ??

Can be worked around by setting the sixth field (fs_passno) to 0 in /etc/fstab (so the system does not attempt to fsck /).

Starting from an old image (2012-07-10) I upgraded package by package until the "Mounting root as read-only [FAILED]" message appeared. initscripts-2012.06.3-2.1-any is the package that breaks this step in the boot sequence (perhaps not very surprisingly). Unfortunately, initscripts-2012.06.3-2.1-any also fixes a major problem in systemd-186 which disallows all non-root logins.

I will report the issue to the archlinuxarm git tracker. In the mean time, perhaps we have to live with it. At least for me, it does not seem to create any problems.

Update

See https://github.com/archlinuxarm/PKGBUILDs/issues/211 for more information. That solution works fine for me, but perhaps you might want to wait for an official patch.

Today I used archlinuxarm for the first time followed the system update instructions but when I tried to update pacman it hung while trying to generate the keychain. I saw this post but when I checked out rc.sysinit, I found that the change had already been made, although it now also has
'run_hook sysinit_start' between the 'fi' and 'bootlogd'.

Is there some other reason why the key generation would hang?

These are two unrelated matters, and yes the above mentioned problem is solved in the latest version of initscripts.

I am pretty sure pacman didn't hang. Switch to another terminal and run some heavy I/O, read more about it here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pa ... he_keyring
