getting stuck during download

Sat Jul 14, 2012 9:30 pm

Hi all
I am very happy with my new rapsberry.
However, I m encountering the following problem:
If I download something that will take more than 10 minutes or I am getting something with transmission (torrent) the system is very often freezing (completely stuck, I need to reboot).

I am using transmission from the package obtained via apt-get
Debian squeezy
The CPU bar is not completely full (therefore I don't think it is something related to that)

I have the suspect it is something related to the screensaver, I tried extending the screensaver time but it doesn't solve the problem. Moreover, it seems that the command
xset s off (to shutting down the screensaver)
doesn't work. If I write it in the xinitrc file than I have further problems: No mounting of usb stick possible.
The overall story is very strange, but it can be that the two problems are unrelated.
Thanks to everybody will help me in advance

Ok, I am definitely sure it is the screensaver, since I timed when the crush happens.... and it s exactly after 10 minutes (the default time for the screensaver).
I am writing from command line

xset s off ,

but it is not solving the problem. How do I destroy this annoying screensaver ?

Do the following other options detailed here work for you?

As I wrote in the first message I tried all the possible xset commands. No they don't work. If I put them in the xinitrc file, it works but then I cannot mount any usb memory storage (very very strange)

If I write it in the command line before lunching startx
I got the following error
"unable to open display """ " even I put sudo in front

Hi everybody,

I just start to use my raspberry today and everthing is fine.
Im using the Debian SO ( I will pass to raspbian in the next days).
For the moment by the way I have this problem with the screensaver. At somepoints it started the screensaver and now I cannot do anything. No response from the keyboard and mouse.
What I have to do? Is it possibile to reboot the SO in someway avoiding the idea of take out the power charger of the raspberry? or is there a command to close the screensaver?
I just see what you see in the image attached.

I really dont know what to do.
thanks a lot,
Luca
