Did anybody test it on the new Raspberry B+ with 1 Go RAM?
Does it run smoothly in such a config?
Is it a viable solution for a full classroom?

I will test it as soon as I receive my B2,
When would you deploy it in class?
Sept 2015?

How do you do the benchmarks for Gcompris? I have my P2 and love Gcompris as do my children.

Would be happy to give it a spin and post the figures if you can give me short explanation.

1 - Yes, I was talking about the Pi 2, I got it mixed with the B+, my bad.

2 - I'm not sure when (or even if) I'll deploy it in a classroom: I want to suggest Pi 2 as an alternative to the school board, I don't make the decisions myself.
They are thinking about refurbishing a computer room where all the PCs are dead but the screens are in working condition, so this may be soon (next month? later? never? - again, I don't make the decision).

3 - I don't know about a particular benchmark for Gcompris, I would like to know whether a general purpose usage goes smoothly (no heavy lag or crashes).
I have asked a friend in the US to send me two Pi 2, but I don't know when I'll get them, so if I have to recommand the Pi 2 for the classroom, I may not be able to wait until I can test myself.

Some news: the school board was offered standard PCs so the class I'll be teaching next month (hopefully: the classroom is not ready yet) will not be on Pi.
Though, the school is interested in the Pi 2 I told them about and will probably order a small lot to experiment with them (I'll probably be the one in charge of the experimentation) - so, if someone could confirm that Gcompris works well on Pi, it may still be useful.

the perfs are very good when compared to a RPI1 overclocked to turbo. I cannot wait to show this to my daughter.

i believe that many people will now adopt gcompris with the PI2.

gcompris is translated in 36 languages (voice guidance for young kids who cannot read yet):
pi@raspberrypi ~ $ sudo apt-cache search gcompris-sound |wc -l
37
