Here's some instructions for enabling use of the TinyTOSLINK in OSMC 2015.06-1:
  • Install OSMC and make sure it is working
  • Modify config.txt:
    • Add this line:

      Code: Select all

      dtoverlay=hifiberry-digi-overlay
    • Remove or comment out this line:

      Code: Select all

      dtoverlay=lirc-rpi
      Note: If not done, the system will freeze when playing audio through the TinyTOSLINK.
  • Reboot the RaspberryPi
  • In Kodi, go to Settings->System->Audio Output and change to ALSA
PS:
As mentioned elsewhere, the product is really neat and looks very professional.
Jörg was really nice to deal with, and the shipping was very quick.
A big thanks!

I got the TinyToslink to work with Openelec 5.0.8 with editing the config.txt in windows on the SD card

I just inserted the line: dtoverlay=hifiberry-digi

But then I installed the Openelec "OpenELEC-RPi2.arm-5.95.3.img" on a SD card it give me this error then I typed "dmesg"

Code: Select all

[ 6.033368] snd-hifiberry-digi sound: ASoC: CPU DAI (null) not registered
[    6.033415] snd-hifiberry-digi sound: snd_soc_register_card() failed: -517
[ 6.051942] snd-hifiberry-digi sound: ASoC: CODEC DAI wm8804-spdif not registered
[    6.051996] snd-hifiberry-digi sound: snd_soc_register_card() failed: -517
[    6.256451] usb 1-1.2: reset high-speed USB device number 4 using dwc_otg
[    6.365902] ieee80211 phy0: rt2x00_set_rt: Info - RT chipset 5390, rev 0502 detected
[    6.406060] ieee80211 phy0: rt2x00_set_rf: Info - RF chipset 5370 detected
[    6.406897] ieee80211 phy0: Selected rate control algorithm 'minstrel_ht'
[ 6.409281] usbcore: registered new interface driver rt2800usb
[ 6.411106] snd-hifiberry-digi sound: ASoC: CODEC DAI wm8804-spdif not registered
[    6.411137] snd-hifiberry-digi sound: snd_soc_register_card() failed: -517
And it will not find the TinyToslink in the settings, any one that have a fix for that ? :)

I expect OpenElec isn't using the same set of device tree rules yet, try following the advice for installing a HiFiBerry-Digi with OpenElec.

Cool!
I got the TinyTOSLINK today and it's workin!

I habe a RPI B+ and OpenElec 5.0.8.
My way:
- enable ssh
- can't write to dir and files I remount the /flash dir-> mount -o remount,rw /flash
- I control /flash/overlays/hifiberry-digi-overlay.dtb was inside
- I added dtoverlay=hifiberry-digi-overlay at /flash/config.txt
- at Kodi/XMBC I reset the audio-settings, than choose ALSA as Audio-Output, Passthrough, AC3 and DTS ready

Between the most steps I reboot ;)

Great work man, PM on its way!

I really appreciate the work that went into this. The other boards out there just did not catch my attention as much as this one.

OpenELEC 5.95.3 broke it, but 5.95.4 fixed it. Try again with the new version.

Is anyone else seeing occasional jerkiness / uneven motion when using the TinyTOSLINK with Kodi? It happens to me on OpenELEC with Adjust Display Refresh Rate enabled, and Sync Playback to Display disabled. It doesn't seem to happen when I use HDMI audio output instead of the TinyTOSLINK.

Jörg,

Are these still available? This board you created is awesome!

Yes, they are still available, but not for very much longer. The bottom of the box is visible.

A user in the german uC forum has successfully made a digital recording with TinyTOSLINK. It just works out of the box, he found out. Just connect an S/PDIF signal to the input preparation of my PCB. If you want an optical receiver instead, you may add it externally, and better remove the 75 Ohm termination resistor R4 when feeding its full swing logic signal.

I finally got my TinyTOSLINK after a long wait and I must admit its working flawlessly!

After updating OpenElec to 5.95.5, editing the config file and adding that code, it wasn't 2 mins and it was working like a treat, 5.1 sound output and all.

One happy person. :D
