Touchscreen LCD from Laptop

Mon Sep 21, 2015 12:32 am

Hey guys,

I have salvaged a digitizer lcd screen from an old laptop with touchscreen function (SU5R-12W04AU-01X)

I have read a couple of tutorials on connecting a standard lcd to the RPi2 so I'm assuming the main 20-pin connection will not be a problem but instead, the touch overlay connection.

Can't really seem to find a kit to buy which doesn't come with it's own lcd but I plan on getting that kit and connecting my own as it seems to also use 4-wire flex cable.

Here are some photos to assist your my question.

If your screen is LVDS type then you might be able to get an interface board from ebay amazon etc. It will cost you as much as a RPi board. Search using the screen model number or contact sellers to see if they have something that will work.

However you are not likely to get the touch screen working.

For the amount of time and expense involved I would instead look into getting the new DSI screen from the RPF.

Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated Raspbian Buster w/ Desktop OS.

If the touch screen has four wires it's probably a resistive overlay. It's extremely easy to hook that up to an ADC and figure out the touch position, and you can probably buy a resistive touch screen controller that will plug in.

Don't hold your breath waiting. Huy hasn't visited the forum since Wed 30 Sep 2015, 00:17 when he clearly didn't like the answers to the one item he'd posted and disappeared for ever.
