Reverse Engineered camera module

Wed Feb 06, 2019 4:04 am

People may find this of interest. I've recently concluded my study where I've reverse engineered the Camera V2 module as part of my PhD thesis.

It's through thanks of some members of this board that I was able to come to some of the inference conclusions drawn here. Especially the work of 6by9.

Interesting, but the imx219 image processor is from Sony, RPF only added the board with crypto chip that helped until now against cheap v2 camera board clones.

The imx219 was used in millions of cell phones years ago, usage in Raspberry v2 camera is small compared to those numbers.

I recently posted on cheap replacement imx219 in case v2 sensor is broken, but v2 board with crypto chip is intact:

Good to know that these replacement imx219 sensors allow for unique identification as well ...

Great stuff. Have forwarded it on to the rest of the RP trading team, because they are a bunch of geeks who may well find this quite interesting!

Hello all
I saw this post and just have a question, is it possible to reverse engineer the pi camera legally for commercialization purposes ?
