IR light

Sun Dec 09, 2018 9:18 pm

Hi All!

I am new to this.....
Trying to build a survailance camera with night vision
How can I connect the IR lamp to the PI?
I have a Raspberry PI 3 B+, IR light and a PI NoIR camera

Below are the specifications of the IR piece.

Operating voltage: 3,3 V DC.
Power consumption: 350 mA.

Can I use the on board 3.3V (GPIO) or do I need to do something else?

You cant power the IR lamp directly from a gpio pin ( max 16mA ) and I would not connect it to the 3.3v gpio header power pin either.

Assuming its an IR LED you could power it from the gpio header 5v power pin using a 5.6Ω 1W current limiting resistor in series with the LED, if you want to be able to switch the LED on and off you will need a transistor to do the current switching controlled by a gpio pin

The use of crystal balls & mind reading is not supported
