Heatsink

Thu Feb 12, 2015 11:45 pm

Hi everyone, I'm new to Raspberry Pi but I wanted to share my heatsink project.

I've been getting some good results as is, I'm still waiting for the metal work to come back from the supplier. Thats when the serious overclocking will begin.

Why? Do you live in the Mojave, Gobi or Sahara desert?

When it gets to 85 your pi may have a struggle. Otherwise heatsinks are snake oil and a waste of money.

Best of luck. We don't need them on our small green wet island on the righthand edge of the Atlantic.

I doubt you'll ever get the pi to play portal2, not even the pi2, since its closed source and theres no arm release...

otherwise, thats a nifty job you've done, but does look abit messy lol

Yeah I'm hoping to start a thing, maybe valve will change there minds.

As far as the mess goes its fine as long as its kept flat, transport may be an issue.

Please dont take this the wrong way. I admire your enthusiasm, but you'll need thousands (maybe even hundreds of thousands) of users, and a real revenue stream to make steam take their mind...

Have you considered the effect of expansion and contraction of that paraffin? (Especially if the paraffin starts to solidify at lower temperatures... don't use it if it does.)

There is a chance of random (and permanent) failures caused by fatigue of the solder joints.

I suggest you run a few hundred, or a few thousand, cycles of high and low temperatures, to be sure...

Not sure what temperature it solidifies at, but it was still liquid at 4 deg C. I don't see how any mechanical dress could accumulate with the open dam design. But I'll try to break it.
