Re: Dance Dance Revolution (stepmania) on Raspi

Hi All,

I have been toying with the idea of making a very small computer that is dedicated to running stepmania http://www.stepmania.com/.
Stepmania 3.9 claims to be able to run on a pc with 400Mhtz CPU and 60MB of RAM. It needs to have a video card with 64MB of video memory (im not sure how this will go with the pi).
anyway here are the min specs needed for stepmania:
http://www.stepmania.com/wiki/.....quirements

What are your thoughts?
I want to be able to boot it straight into stepmania and i will be hooking it up to a dance mat (or two) and a tv for video and sound output.
I could even put the RasPi into the actual dance mat itself so that there is one less thing i need to transport when taking my DDR setup to LANs and other friend's houses.
I'm thinking a 32GB SD card should be enough for all the songs that I want. What are your thoughts? is there anything that i have overlooked? Do you think Stepmania will run ok on a RasPi?
I am really excited about this project. :D

There's a thread about that here: http://www.raspberrypi.org/?pa.....#038;t=224

I had a funny vision pass through my mind of someone with a Raspberry Pi mounted on their belt and a small LCD held in a pair of glasses... Stepmania going wherever you go. ;-)

Thanks for the quick reply.

One idea I had was to make a handheld Stepmania console with a psone screen and arcade buttons. This means you wouldnt be using it with a dance mat but with more of a "keyboard" type setup. If i can get Stepmania running on the Pi then i could just get the case 3D printed (after I get some good designs out) that would house the Pi, the screen, buttons, batery, ect. That will of course have to happen after we get stepmania running on the Pi.
