Raspberry Pi IRC

Sat May 12, 2012 9:49 pm

I think it would be very cool to have an IRC channel devoted to raspberry pi chat, is there an IRC program such as ircle for RasPI currently? if not would somebody like to help me code one? My programming skills are pretty basic and i havent been learning python for long but i have a board and i want to add something to this so a board from the developer run isn't wasted on me...

we already have an unofficial channel #raspberrypi on freenode and irssi works well on the raspi but if you want to code an irc client yourself then go for it

You can likely use irssi IRC client in RPi.

Might be good exercise to try write your own but you'll probably have better projects to code on. ^^

if there is already one that works ill do something different :P I've already made a couple of simple games to demonstrate using raw_input() in python.
by the way if anyone writes something and they dont have a test board feel free to send it to me :)

The channel seems to be locked down (+r). I've hunted down the way to register too many times now, and I still can't remember how to do it . . . .
The Freenode instructions are rubbish too!
[EDIT]
OK found this: http://freenode.net/faq.shtml#nicksetup

Yeah I registered before but they seem to have lost the details. Dunno why they don't link to registration info in the help screen (although they do this _after_ you have attempted to register, duh!).

One more thing with Freenode, at least on xChat, you will need to enter your nickserv password in the _server_ password field to identify automatically. This is not the case with OFTC, and probably others.
