The biggest problem that I don't see discussed much involves interfacing the laptop's "internal" keyboard and touchpad to the Pi. As far as I understand, those peripherals have no built-in controller boards--instead, the controller boards are on the laptop's motherboard. Unlike the LCD interface problem, this one doesn't seem to have a simple, straightforward solution.

I was thinking about this also, and even though this seems like a old/dead thread, has anyone had any progress?

Lcd interfacing is doable in some circumstances using external dvi/hdmi -> lcd adapters, there's a few of those about and available relatively cheaply from ebay. Keyboard and touchpad are easily doable using either an external 'teensy' or similar, or with some driver work. I can't see it being too hard, but, as ever, the devil is in the details. Oh, and that you'll end up spending more than buying a cheap, working, and massively more powerful laptop and running linux on that.

I was wondering what ever happend to this thread ?

I think it would be an amazing thing to develop a add on that simply allows laptop screens to be reused if not only from the fact that reuse is a great idea and also there are so many dead laptops out there, much more than Rpi devices sold I am sure
