High temperature sensors

Sun Jun 09, 2013 5:41 pm

Hello fellow raspberry pi hackers,

I was looking for temperature sensors that can be used by the raspberry, and I already ordered some small dallas etc. sensors for indoor/outdoor measuring - that should be a peace of cake to set up, no worry's there.

Then I came up with an idea of measuring high temperatures, cus I am into building homemade coffee roasters. In this case I want a sensor that can withstand the extreme high temperature which is present in coal, ovens etc.

Does anybody have knowledge of similar type of projects, or where to buy these kind of sensors?

Cheers,
Frank

Hi,

This project could be useful for you - http://blog.jfedor.org/2012/10/fridge-t ... 3309846194 . There is described measuring of temperature in a fridge, but the sensor https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10988 can be used in wide temperature range.
I hope it helps you.

another option is just use an A/D converter and hook it to a thermocouple, those are used for really high temperatures like what your talking about where things can get red hot.
If it isnt smoking and blown into pieces, it's not pushed far enough yet. :P

What is your definition of "extremely high temperature"? It sounds like "very fast raspberry pi". For sensing hundreds to a couple thousands of degrees you could use infrared temperature sensors.
