For casing designers-to-be:

Based on Gert's technical drawing and photo's, I created a SolidWorks2010 assembly with model-B componets which I found on several electronics component sites. I tried to choose them as accurately as possible, not sure however which will be exactly on the "real thing". However, measurements may easlyly be changed in the SW model.

SW-assembly, parts and IGES in:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/364195.....SW2010.zip

Use & change them as you like; can't wait to see well-designed casings for different target-groups, applicatios and environments!

If needed, I'll be glad to "save as" different formats.

Happy CADing!

What I can see the pcb board is actually 56mm width instead of 53.98mm... correct ?

are you able to save this as 'skp' (Google SketchUp)?

sorry.. no way to save as Sketchup; there are converters available but none free-of-charge i'm afraid. Maybe via Blender?

I am sure the 56 is correct. I read that somebody also checked my dimensions against the pictures and found the 53.98 implausible.

yep its 56mm, I also checked it against the pictures of the pcb board, rescaled them and found 560 pixels against 850 pixels…

marXmit - you could save as (export) dxf file.

I can see a modding club spin off.

How long before Raspberry Pi goes 'Neon'?

dxf is 2D.

marXmit created a 3D CAD file. Thank you, marXmit! I opened it in Solid Works.

Creating a DXF is easy in SolidWorks. Make a new drawing (DRW/SLDDRW) file with all the views that you need, then simply save the drawing file as a DXF. DONE.

If anyone is interested (and because I want to model a case), I converted the model to .obj and gave the board a quick texture.

Marxmit,

Thanks! This is awesome!

We should start pointing everyone to the wiki so we can all share ideas and collaborate.

Let's start an aftermarket for raspberry pi.

Raspberry Pi newbie here,

I'm getting CAD training at work and have been told to practice on a 'non-work' project to hone my training, a raspberry pi case was an obivous choice as mine only arrived the other day.

Does anyone have a copy of this CAD file about? I'd like to use it to reference off.

Thanks,
FB

came across this earlier today
http://solidworksbootcamp.com/raspberry ... enclosure/

the zip file has a case, but also has a model of the R-pi itself

If anyone wants an OpenSCAD model to start from then I've posted one at this link:
