7"-10" LCD screen - not touchscreen

Sat Sep 22, 2012 10:09 pm

Hi, I'm looking for a 7"-10" LCD screen - preferably not a touchscreen.
I'm struggling to find something that I can afford (my budget is £35) and that supports HDMI. Is that possible? I'm trying to build something akin to this: http://www.raspberrypi.org/wp-content/u ... laptop.jpg
HDMI is not a necessity (having searched for quite a while, I'm aware of their usual hefty price tag), and second hand screens'll work fine - I can probably just gut them anyway.
Thank you :)

If HDMI is not needed, search around for stand alone DVD players, and check the specs for whether it takes video input. My wife's 9" Sony DVD player has composite video input. Now, a new one is perhaps a little out of your price range, but search around for a used one (make sure it has video input, not all DVD players have it).

Thanks for the advice :)
The trouble is, I'm looking for a screen that I can (possibly) gut and then just plug into my RPi easily - I'm not very good with electronics past the plug and play kind of thing. I have been looking around since posting this, and could only find this: Lilliput UM70 7" USB Display USB-powered mini Monitor - an £80 USB monitor. It'd be perfect for me, it's small and standalone - I wouldn't even gut it - and I could just house it in some wood, attach it to the housing of my keyboard with some hinges, plug both into my Raspberry Pi's USB ports (I have bought a USB splitter, I now have 5 USB ports) and voila - my working Raspberry Pi netbookything.
BUT!
If this DVD player could do the same as the Lilliput screen can for less - I would consider buying the former.
So the question is - can it?

You should try screen modules from njytouch:

I bought this one for about 40 £. It is a 7" screen with a dvi output. It is quite easy to assemble. Here is mine with a raspi behind: http://imageshack.us/a/img51/3931/sam1434fz.jpg

Thanks! These would be excellent for what I need, buy I'm not sure how to install them, nor what DVI is. As I've said before, I'm more of a plug and play kind of guy, but these look interesting and I'm open to suggestion :)

DVI is numeric video output (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface). It is an interesting video output for us since, it allows to plug the raspberry through a sheap HDMI/DVI converter cable. Moreover, as it use HDMI output, the image quality is better than the one with composite "car screens" .

The kit are easy to assemble. You have to plug the two power wires of the converter board (HCR-TCON V3 TCON Board) on the controler board. Then, you have to plug the the converter board's ribbon cable on the LCD panel.
The whole kit is feeded with current through a 12 V input.

HDMI/DVI cable can be made by yourself if you want to save 3-4€:
