iphone screen

Wed Sep 19, 2012 9:57 am

Hi,

I have read on a wiki that the RPi should be able to connect to an iPhone screen?

I have a broken iphone 3GS, where the lcd is fine. Can anyone point me in the right direction to wire the display up?

That info is incorrect.
It is impossible. For your own sake , stick with a HDMI or DVI screen.

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.
• Don't like to search the forum BEFORE posting 'cos it's useless ? Try googling : yoursearchtermshere site:raspberrypi.org

Not possible, but the following facts may have confused you into thinking that way:

I dont want to go down the route of a DVI/HDMI screen, I am looking for something more like this:

or

are there any guides on connecting generic small (upto 5") displays to the RPi?

Is composite the only way these screens will connect?

In this case wiring up the display involves an expensive interface that converts from HDMI to the specific flexible PCB (FPC) signals of this particular display, in fact it has all the electronics of an LCD monitor, and only uses the LCD from a tablet instead of a normal LCD panel. And as any other tablet display uses a different set of FPC cables, so you will need a different interface board for each tablet screen, and it must be exactly the right one.

This is just an expensive commercial solution, its NOT a "simple way to wire up the display to a PI" as was asked by the OP, so yes the answer stays NO, unless you want to pay big bucks for an adapter to convert the LCD into a full HDMI monitor, and the expertise to find *exactly* the right adapter board for the LCD. And NO, there is no simpler/cheaper way to interface this LCD to a PI.
it also doesn't need any special skills, just the money to buy the commercial solution.
