Re: A case worthy of a $5 computer!

Fri Mar 03, 2017 5:03 am

Just updated the OP with an aluminum version I just made today. Finally got my mill back up and running with an enclosure and flood coolant setup so I can get better surface finishes with less work and not make such a mess with chips flying all over!

I designed my own logo, the official one just took too long to mill with how small an end mill I needed to use to capture the leaf detail. Got a little chatter in the dimples, I might make another just to clean that up... but we'll see.

Hope 'yall like it!

This is so totally and utterly cool it doesn't need a logo ;-)

Agreed - put it on the bottom, or make it more discrete. Lovely anyways!

Here's an idea,
your case is so beautiful, it deserves to be original in its own right, why not get some of the artistic guys on here to design you your own logo and use that. this could be the start of something wonderful!
BTW, I want one!!

Thanks everyone, yea, these are a no-go for the wireless version. When I manage to get my hands on one, I'll have to make a third case from plastic, maybe black Delrin, or maybe clear polycarbonate or something. I have some time to figure it out I'm sure, as it'll probably be a few months before the W's are in stock!

Here's a pic of the two cases together... brother and sister! :P

You should wire an external antenna to a metal case. Place it on the side of the case, and mount it on a folding hinge. The Pi Zero W can surely accept an external antenna.
