pi 3 cases

Tue Mar 01, 2016 9:22 am

are the mounting holes of the pi3 located on the board like the pi2 ? I am wondering if I could use something like the Multi-Pi Stackable Raspberry Pi Case from modmypi: https://www.modmypi.com/raspberry-pi/ca ... y-pi-case/ ?

It should work. The Pi3 is specified as having the same hole positioning as the Pi2. It might be worth an email to Mod-My-Pi; I'm sure they've tried it.

Hi !

Yes, do not worry the new RPI 3 , It has measures such as RPI 2 and B+
and the standard HAT.

The changes (among others) are in the position to LEDs and RESET pins.

The WiFi antenna might be an issue with a case that has tight vertical constraints, but my Pimoroni Coupe case fits no problem.

Hi all,
Is it possible for me to take a dead Mac mini and place a Raspberry pi inside to resurrect the Mac? I'm interested in undertaking a challenging pi project for the Easter holidays.

I don't see why not,

You can run USB extenders to the USB ports, an ethernet extender to the ethernet port, HDMI extender to the HDMI port, headset extender to the headphone jack.

The audio in will require some consideration, if you really want it you'll need to add an internal USB soundcard.

I don't think the pi can do anything with the thunderbolt ports, so you'll want to blank those off.

Power + power button: if you want to keep the mains in you'll need an internal converter from two pin mains plug to 5V 2.5A having the button power on and off the Pi will be an interesting challenge, there are solutions on this forum or available to purchase.

Definately wouldn't be hard, as it's been done.

Apple Mac Mini G4: viewtopic.php?f=40&t=51362

Slightly different but similar, using Apple Airport Extremes:

Are the Raspberry Pi 2 model B and the Pi 3 using the same "Official Raspberry Pi Foundation Case"?

I don't know what the differences are on amazon:
Pi 2 model B

Pi 3

The Pi2 and Pi3 cases are slightly different. Both models will fit in both cases, but the ACT and PWR LEDs have moved in the Pi3 so wouldn't be visible in the Pi2 case, and vice-versa.

Dear all,

I would like to ask you if any you have 3D model of Raspberry PI 3. The thing is, that I would like to make 3D model of a case for it and thx to it, that I have the access to CNC milling machine, i would like to make it from aluminium with heatsinks on the chip.

If’ll make the solution I'll post it ofcourse. Have a nice day.

If your Raspberry Pi 2 case is in clear plastic, it should not be a problem to use it for a Raspberry Pi 3 and still see the LEDs.

You can see how the LEDs have been moved around here: http://blog.mivia.dk/five-great-raspber ... se-models/

Yes the B+/2B/3B are all the same form factor, but be aware that the power and ACT LEDs have moved and the SDCard may be difficult to remove because of the change to a friction microSD slot.
