RPi Zero cardboard cases anyone?

Mon Dec 14, 2015 11:33 am

Is there already such thing as cardboard case templates available for the zero? Everyones churning out 3d printed or manufactured cases, but there doesn't seem to be anything diy-able solution for keeping our zeros safe..

Would not mind either, if there was a cardboard template, for a case, I could use till I found a commercial case that I like. That is one that appeals to me, if I could find plastic/nylon screws and standoffmig locally, I just might make a case myself, just don't have the means to post accurate neat drawings to the forum if I do.

Zip file contains STL files - what do I need to be able to print those. Do not see PDF file to download.

Thanks.

There was a .pdf in it - no .stl files - when I downloaded it - am I doing something strange?

Just downloaded it, again, and now I get a zipped PDF file, my original download, had STL files in it - not that it matters, thanks

Printed the PDF file this morning. The diagram does not print dark enough to be seen with any ease. Are the any suggestions on how I might darken it?

Thanks for the link to the template maker. I created a case for my Miscap + PiZero setup.

Actually I would like to have some nice graphics design for the case. White is a bit dull.

Would it be ok to set up a competition for designing the coolest graphics for this PiZero + Miscap template? The price would be 1-3 Miscap boards depending of the number of cool entries. I know that this is a shameless scam for Miscaps. But on the other hand I have no good ideas for the graphic design myself.

The voting could be by the poll mechanism in case there is a small number of entries.

Here is a picture of Miscap with an ENC28J60 module for Ethernet and a 3.5mm headphone plug for sound.

Thanks for the template. It only took about half an hour to cut it all out and stick together.
I used some coloured card instead of thick cardboard to make the folding easier.
I then wrapped a couple of those twisty wires through the corner holes to hold it in place.

However, your slots for the sdcard and Ethernet seem to be on the wrong side though.

Can you upload a picture of the completed case?

Thanks for the note. I found it out the hard way. They are now fixed. As the images were links only they should now be correct.

See below for my completed case.

I will have to redo it as I did it with the ports on the wrong side but you get the idea.
Also, remember that this is for a Miscap hat so there are holes for an ethernet port that you don't need if you just have a zero by itself.

Karrika: It is fairly obvious where to fold, but could you put some dotted lines in anyway? :)

Done. Better now?

Perhaps it would be good to make a very small PiZero-only case with minimum height.

Thanks for sharing this! I've made a few modifications that I believe increase the strength and durability. Perhaps someone will recreate my crude drawing in a usable format.

Hi there. I just came across this thread. I'm no technical designer, but I made a cardboard case for a RPi Zero V 1.3 a couple of months back. Thought I'd share it with you just in case you like it and want to print out the image for yourselves. If so, you may wish to tinker with the sizing depending on the thickness of the card you use in your printer :D

Oh, and someone just mentioned that this might get a bit hot. I had no issues but if it's a worry, cut a larger hole where the strap fits and raise the bottom and extend the height. Edit it to your heart's content.

Not at all. Simple and functional. All the other cases did not have a good way to keep it together. Here you have a string that ties PiZero to the case. As the sides are open you will also have a way for the heat to escape. I really like the idea. Of course the cardboard could be colored. Perhaps stripes or circles?

A little mix of two boxes, I'll make a better one later.
