Video PLayer

Tue Jun 19, 2012 9:55 am

Guys,
there are a lot of topics on video but in the end I am not sure....

Am I able to play avi or other video formats on the pi?

if yes, which player should I use and where can I get it?

thanks a lot

You should be able to play H264 encoded video - so if your AVI file is H264 encoded you should be OK.

Search for omxplayer on the forum for using the player standalone, or XBMC or OpenELEC.

thanks. I had seen omxplayer but thought that it was experimental.

the pi plays composite video to a large screen tv that looks great. when I play form the SD card control-c works well to stop the player.

when I play from a samba mount across the network then the cpu maxes out and it is a bit tough to stop the player.

I absolutely can recommend looking to use Xbian distribution: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2-eUrGbl0I
