HDMI cable hack

Sat Dec 15, 2012 9:34 am

If I try to search for HDMI on the forum it gets ignored. Not sure why, but I think I may have a hack that might be useful to people.

I bought a non powered HDMI to vga cable from ebay. Then I read here that non powered cables tend to draw to much current though the diode on the Pi board.

I have opened the small box on the cable. Identified the 5V power cable from the HDMI connector and removed it from the board. All I have to do now is attach a fly lead to the 5V pad and another to a ground pad and I have a powered HDMI to vga converter cable.

If you fancy getting your soldering iron out you can do the same conversion.
